Picosure Q & A

How Does PicoSure® Work?

In the past aesthetic lasers relied on the use of heat when it came to lightening skin and removing tattoos. With PicoSure®, the lasers also take advantage of speed. The speed at which the energy travels is so fast that, pigment and ink molecules do not just break apart, they shatter into microscopic pieces that the body can easily metabolize and eliminate from the system. PicoSure® can dramatically lighten even the darkest discolorations in just a few minutes time. In addition to eliminating discolorations, the pulse waves created by the laser also work to encourage Cell Signaling within the body that stimulates the body's own healing responses.

What are the Benefits of PicoSure®?

The PicoSure® procedure offers many benefits to the patients who choose it as a treatment option. The procedure is non-invasive and the patient will experience very little, if any down time. Because the procedure works to elicit a healing response in the body as part of the procedure, there are very few side effects. The treatment is extremely effective at lightening many types of skin discolorations and removing even the darkest inks from large tattooed areas on the body. For most patients, treatment lasts anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes. There is very little preparation needed before the procedure is performed and the patient can resume their daily activities when the procedure is over.

How Many Sessions are Needed to Remove Most Tattoos?

The number of sessions needed to remove a tattoo will depend on how old the tattoo is and how brightly colored and intense it appears. Sessions are performed every six to eight weeks. The doctor will evaluate a person's individual needs and work to create an individualized treatment plan that allows them to accomplish what the patient wants. Many patients state that the PicoSure® procedure is similar to that of when they got the tattoo. PicoSure® uses mild pressure in addition to the heat which may result in slight discomfort for the patient. The doctor will take the necessary steps to ensure that the patient is comfortable throughout the duration of the procedure.
